An established ceramic layout. A flexible construction.
Hexagonal ceramic layouts have a long history in hard armor, where tiles are bonded with epoxy to rigid backing and supporting substrates. The hexagonal shape itself is not the invention: it is an established way to arrange ceramic elements into a closely fitted matrix.
Hexar™ develops that established approach into flexible rifle armor. Instead of fixing the matrix to a rigid backing, we arrange the ceramic hexagons on a flexible substrate. The individual tiles remain hard while the assembly can bend between them, allowing the panel to follow a curve while preserving the closely fitted ceramic layout.
Stealth Armor Systems founder Allan D. Bain is the inventor named in U.S. Patent 9,534,872, “Non-scalar flexible rifle defeating armor system,” which documents the architecture behind Hexar™. Its priority date is October 21, 2014; it was filed October 21, 2015 and issued January 3, 2017. This Hexar-specific patent history is distinct from Bain’s broader flexible rifle armor development, which he dates to 1995.
